Christmas Holiday - Fun Things To Do In Cape Town

The Christmas holidays are the one time of the year where families across South Africa travel long distances to be together. This means homes are filled to bursting with peals of laughter and races to see who got to the restroom first. Sitting at home with the kids is simply not an option, so we break out some fun activities that you can do in and around Cape Town this summer that won’t hurt your pocket.

We have compiled some of the best fun activities for you and your family this Christmas holiday!

1. Everybody loves to picnic

Cape Town brims with some amazing picnic spots. The best of all is that you do not even have to go through the hassle of planning and packing the basket since most venues offer you the option of getting a ready-made basket and blanket. Enjoy the great outdoors in a relaxing way.

2. Jump on the cable car for half price

Long summer days allow you to enjoy more before it gets dark. From 1 November to 19 December 2018 you can ride up to Table Mountain at half price after 6 pm every day on their sunset special.

3. Go berry picking

Imagine picking your own fresh fruit and bringing it home for everyone to enjoy. Strawberries, blackberries, cherries and grapes are all ripe for the picking, waiting to be devoured. It does not cost much, and it is a great activity for the whole family.

4. Carolling choir

The Oude Libertas Amphitheatre is hosting a Christmas sing-along on the 16th of December that is guaranteed to get you in the spirit. Performed by a couple of select choirs and solo artists, this charity drive will leave you feeling great.

5. Take a dip in Silvermine

Silvermine Nature Reserve is found right in the middle of Table Mountain National Park and offers great family summer fun. Jump in the Silvermine Reservoir to stay cool, light a braai for lunch and hike through the fynbos to enjoy the amazing views.

6. Capegate Summer Glice Rink

Take the kids ice skating in the heat of the day. With a fun theme, this is a great pastime for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years of age.

7. Maze runners

Enjoy an interactive 3D maze at Milkwood Maze towards the south of the city. Other activities on the same grounds include horseback riding, visiting the snake park, and paintball or laser tag games.
